Beak to Beak

Qualifications:

  1. Event is by invitation only; there will be no passing down of entries.
  2. You must have placed 1st thru 5th place in the chicken category at a Master Series
    KCBS event in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, or Wisconsin – January 1, 2025 –
    December 31, 2025. All previous Beak to Beak Champions also qualify for an entry into
    the 2025 contest.
  3. If your team qualifies, the Head Cook that was registered at your qualifying event
    must attend the Beak to Beak Invitational. If he/she is not in attendance, your team will
    be disqualified.

Rules – 2024

  1. Teams will be provided a cook site at the GLBBQA’s Spring Fling.
  2. All Cooks for this invitational must attend the 2pm MANDATORY cooks meeting at
    the Judging Tent.
  3. Turn in location is at the Judging Tent.
  4. You may trim before arriving but nothing else. Meat inspections will be done by a
    Beak-to-Beak Committee Member on Friday after team check in. Regular KCBS rules
    apply.
  5. You must turn in 6 pieces of White Meat & 6 pieces of Dark Meat Chicken.
  6. Same storage/handling rules apply that any other sanctioning body (e.g. KCBS).
  7. Gas is strictly prohibited, and fires must be of wood, coal, or pellet.
  8. Turn in will be at 4:55pm – 5:05pm, at the Judging Tent.
  9. Turn in containers will be standard size half pans with numbered fitted lids to be
    provided at the event.
  10. Garnish is forbidden as is marking or puddles of the sauce.
  11. Judging will be done by Certified BBQ Judges with preference given to individuals
    that have judged more competitions regardless of sanctioning body.
  12. Judging will be done using the KCBS scoring system.
  13. Ties to be broken using “Taste” points, if still tied then “Tenderness”, if needed
    “Appearance,” and if a tie remains the highest chicken score at the last cooked
    qualifying event for each team will be used to break the tie.
  14. The prize pool will include a championship belt/trophy and $500 and Past
    Champions entry into the 2025 Beak-2- Beak Invitational and beyond.
  15. At least one person from each team must be a member of the GLBBQA in good
    standing to compete in this event.
